Kathy Temin
The Australian artist Kathy Temin (Sydney, 1968) has shown her works already several times in The Netherlands, amongst which Manifesta 1 in Rotterdam. Popular culture and history of art are her favorite subjects. Her work is quite often concentrated on homely spaces. Installations, model homes, animals made out of soft fabrics accentuate these domestic and protected surroundings, but these are not always that cosy as one might think.
In 2001 Kathy Temin put an advertisement in a New York newspaper asking for people to do an audition for playing a koala, including mating on stage. For six weeks every weekend a male and a female gave mating performances, which took place in P.S. 1. In her exhibition 'Auditions for a pair of Koalas' a video is shown called 'Last day of the job', in which the koala actors discuss their behaviourism as human beings playing koalas. An interesting and funny contrast is shown between being human and being a koala.
